Staunton Jams 2025

Blog Post: Week of 3/31

Hello! This week was tough, but mostly self-inflicted problems… I was attempting to create the copyright block plugin on this site. It seemed like the tutorial was doing it through our local development environment, but since this site is not local to my machine… I went down a rabbit hole. I downloaded the SFTP extension in VS Code and, with some help and confusion from AI, was able to configure the SFTP config.json file to “talk” to the server that our site is on (for me it is a Name Cheap host). I was able to see the plugin listed in the plugins tab, but when I go to try and add it to my post, it does not exist. After hours of fiddling and probably messing everything up, I deleted the project files in defeat.

I was not able to complete all of the readings and work because of this detour, but I did learn the value of working in a local development environment. In the future I look to save a headache in dealing with SFTP and working with files from a server and the large file downloads, then uploads, errors, and ultimate failure. I am hoping to redeem myself by getting a custom plugin block into my final project.

Looking over the Milestone 4, I notice that it mentions “your theme in a .zip”. Does this mean we should be looking to creating a custom theme for our site? I am assuming we will be working in WordPress for the final? Thank you for any insight!
