Hello! I spent most of this week working through making a classic theme for my final project site! I utilized a helpful YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUz69qRjN2s) to help me set it up from scratch. I liked his approach as a professional in the field. He explained that he primarily uses classic themes, but will add custom blocks for his clients within the classic theme. I am hoping to do this with the band listings. Both he and the WordPress tutorial ran through the loop functions to display blog posts, and I have decided to utilize that with my final site. Weekly bog posts and Festival Updates will be included on the home.php. front-page.php is for static, and home.php is for blog hosting, I found that interesting. My theme includes both in case I want to switch to static at some point. It was enjoyable working through developing my theme and trying to match it as close to my Milestone 3 as possible.
I also learned a lot about utilizing localwp this week. I had been messing around a little with it previously, but all of my updates had been on my live site. Once I had my final site skeleton and home page ready to go, I utilized a little help from chatGPT to help me figure out how to get my blog posts from my original site onto my new festival site, and then replaced my blog site with my new final project site. In the process I learned about expensive extensions for file transfers, and how to get around it using the backup folder in file manager. As of writing this, I am still waiting on DNS compatibility for my new site, and I hope it is all set by the time you get to it! Overall, a great week of getting into the weeds and working live a web developer!
